Milestones
Bill Evanov begins his broadcasting career as a salesman at CHIN-FM Toronto, eventually becoming Sales Manager during a 13-year tenure.
Bill transitions to Station Manager at CING-FM in Burlington, Ontario, where he develops his vision for station ownership.
In partnership with Patrick Hurley, Bill acquires his first radio station, CKMW-AM in Brampton, while continuing to manage CING-FM.
Bill and colleagues Angelo Cremisio and John Dukelow launch a pioneering Dance Music format at the Burlington station.
CKMW rebrands as CIAO on 530 AM, becoming a multilingual station. Bill purchases Dufferin Communications and CIDC-FM Orangeville, establishing the company's flagship.
The company acquires CKDX 88.5 FM in Newmarket, rebranding it as "The Jewel" with an easy listening format.
Significant expansion begins with CRTC approvals for new stations in Halifax and Ottawa.
Further growth with stations launching in Toronto (Proud FM 103.9), Hawkesbury, and Winnipeg.
Expansion continues with acquisitions in Hudson/St-Lazare, Quebec and additional Winnipeg properties.
The network matures with format refinements and continued development across all markets.
Bill Evanov passes away on February 28 at age 77. His son Paul Evanov assumes the role of President and CEO, carrying the family legacy forward.
Evanov Communications operates 11 stations across Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba, remaining one of Canada's largest independent broadcasters.
